The Brief
Colour is more than a palette. It is life and is present in all aspects that surround it.We want you to represent this by choosing one of the following themes to create a singular image, a series of images or a short piece of film.
Masculinity
Masculinity is currently the subject of much discussion and debate in the media, art and culture. What defines masculinity? Is it possible to be both feminine and masculine? Where do our preconceptions of this idea come from and what would a futuristic idea of masculinity represent? Would the term lose its relevance, or take on a
different preconception?

Suggested by our module leader we were all introduced to the EIZO Student Award competition, where we can submit our work for free as long as it fits with the briefs provided. Due to other modules I did not produce new work, but I did have personal work that I produced in the studio which fits really well with the masculinity brief. I worked with my friend and second year Photography student Jordan, I wanted to explore my skills in the studio but also create some great content. I styled him with flowers keeping to a rosy pastel colour palette and directed Jordan while shooting. We ended up with some lovely shots that I’m very proud of, giving an editorial aesthetic with the up close images. I decided to take part in the EIZO competition because there’s nothing to lose, you can take part and maybe get somewhere, or not take part and never know what will happen. It’s an experience and an opportunity to begin getting your name out there!
