HUNGARIAN HOUSE OF PHOTOGRAPHY

The next exhibition of the day was the Hungarian House of Photography which was built for the purpose of exhibiting contemporary photography by local Hungarian photographers. A multi-storey building under historical monument protection, its primary task is to give home to Hungarian and international historical and contemporary photographical exhibitions.

It was a nice intimate exhibition that displayed numerous prints by a photographer Katharina Rothers who is a visual artist based in Budapest. She graduated from the Painting Faculty of the Düsseldorf Arts academy in 1999. The work that was on display in this exhibition was in collaboration with József Szolnoki who is also a visual artist. In their joint practice, the duo has been work with archival, objectified documents that reveal transfers between ideological and cultural spaces, as well as transitional states. In their projects, they present how official and private interpretations in the cultural memory of societies and ideological systems complete with each other.
