To explore, visit galleries and build our contacts we were given the opportunity to go on a trip to Budapest for four days with our Photography course. It was an educational trip but also enabled us to connect and bond with other creatives on our course, for future collaborations or projects. We had days planned and an itinerary, however a lot of freedom to explore, capture our surroundings or plan photo shoots with our peers. With having help and guidance from my lecturers, I was able to view and attend many different exhibitions that gave me inspiration for research and projects.
On the first day we visited the TO-BE gallery, although it was under construction we went to listen to Tomas Opitz speak about the history and growth of the gallery. He discussed that the purpose with this new venue in the fine art photography and collage art field, in Budapest, is to look for a newer dialogue, a different point of view from the local creatives, with a different way to express and communicate photography as art. It was really refreshing and nice to hear his story behind creating TO-BE with his wife Bea Puskás.

I brought my Olympus 35mm camera with me and it was my best friend throughout the trip, captured my beautiful friends and my surroundings throughout my time there. I found a little camera shop that sold everything or anything, including rolls of film. VERY CHEAP TOO! A photographers dream place.. Below are some snaps of Ellis on black and white 35mm film, it was shot partly for fun but also for my photo book that I’m currently creating and organising. I would say I’m mostly a digital portrait photographer, however I love the odd editorial film snap. The grain, scratches and pure film aesthetic just changes a whole concept or look to a muse. It was a quick 20 minute photo shoot in my hotel room while in Budapest and I love the outcome.
