MINI CLICK TALK – ROZ DOHERTY

Last month we had Roz Doherty come in and talk to us about Mini Click, a photography organisation that curates free talks and discussions, hosts events, workshops, exhibitions and publishes affordable photography books and ‘zines with the remit of being open and accessible to all – experimenting with different ways of looking at images and focusing on stories and ideas instead of kit and cameras. Mini Click formed in Brighton, 2010 curated by Jim Stephenson, Lou Miller, Bryony Good, Roz Doherty, Lauren Holder, Marta Benavides, Livia Smith, Kristina Salgvik, and Joe Conway and has bases in Brighton, London and Leeds. It all started with having small intimate talks in Jim’s living room, which later progressed to a pub the more people came.

Mini Click Leeds started in April 2017 by Roz Doherty with Bryony Good and Jim Stephenson. From December 2018 Mini Click Leeds is co-curated by Roz and Bryony, in conjunction with the Village book shop in the Leeds Centre.

“Always ask, the worst response you can get is no” – Roz Doherty

After talking about Mini Click in all it’s glory, the perks and what you can gain from attending a talk or even speaking. Roz gave us great information and tips about being a photographer such as exposure, networking and general guidance will our work. It was a really small intimate talk due to Coronavirus, but I think that turn out was beneficial as we could all communicate as a group. Also we brought our prints to this session for a review by Roz for the EIZO competition, she was extremely helpful and informative with her advice in regards to choosing the best images. When the lock down and the virus calms down, any talks that arise after I will definitely attend as I love socialising and finding new inspiring artists.
